Members Of Parliament in Sierra Leone Demanding Salary Increase.

*IF MPS ARE CRYING WHAT IS THE FATE OF TEACHERS*

In Sierra Leone Members of Parliament are demanding salary increase from 20,000,000 (Twenty million) a month to Le. 37,000,000 (Thirty Seven million) while the speaker and deputy take home a whooping Le. 70,000,000 (seventy million) and Le. 50,000,000 (Fifty million) respectively. They also call for hefty increments in allowances ranging from medical, rent, etc. This means that the least Member of Parliament will take home Le. 37,000,000 While the least teacher languish with around Le. 500,000 (five hundred thousand Leones) This is an insult to teachers who fight day and night to ensure that they improve the human resource of this country.

The question here is, are the Members of Parliament there to represent themselves only, or for the general good of all?

The government chooses free education as its flagship project but pays less attention to the livelihood of the drivers and agents of this project. The bulk of the work in transmitting this project rests on the shoulders of the teachers. So many traps have been set to humiliate teachers who are found guilty of trying to sabotage the project but nothing is being done to improve the lives of the most important component (teachers) in this project. To tell you the truth, there is no union or body that advocates on the teachers' behalf.

The union that knifes a huge junk of the teachers' salaries is dumb on such important issue and might have even gone political.

The SLTU is now a breeding ground for politicians. People use the union to gain political recognition.

The MPs are sensible enough to put politics aside and advocate for their improvement in salaries.

If the SLTU is not competent enough to do the advocacy thing, I suggest its dissolution with immediate effect or else.....

A word for a wise is quite sufficient.
